Folk music seeps through the music in this concert programme, from the swirl of Northumbrian pipes in Denis Smalley’s gloriously psychedelic 1974 work, ‘Pentes’ to the sounds of the Scottish Highlands framed in Judith Weir’s ‘Blue Green Hill’. Stef Conner, is a performer with folk group The Unthanks and a classical composer and combines both in the evocative ‘Shipwrecked Ghost’.

The programme features a Kevos commission from talented composer Alison Kay
– whose piece Flux they revived to such great acclaim last year – and concludes with Berio’s timeless collection of folk songs from around the world, a twentieth century classic performed by a brilliant young singer, Anna Stokes.
